Why L’Gato Started
This is a long one so get comfy:
The idea for L’Gato was founded in one striking moment of Supply Chain gone wrong.
My child’s birthday was coming up and I was looking for some party favors I could buy in bulk for the class. I began researching excess inventory websites which quickly spiraled into an avalanche of witnessed waste.
As a Supply Chain professional who spent the last 20+ years strategizing how to get the right amount of inventory to the right place at the right time, the sheer volume of deadstock being sold was- quite frankly- terrifying.
The images of products being launched into the void everyday in hopes of tracking were overwhelming. I thought about landfills. I thought about all the time and effort people had spent creating and developing each item. I thought about the money spent and lost. I thought about how that money and time and space could’ve been better used. I thought about my child and the world they would inherit.
Needless to say, the idea of a party favor was not pursued. But that was not enough.
My professional life has been spent in learning how to mitigate and manage risk in the Supply Chain. I’ve worked for large, multi-national companies, startups, mid-sized companies, and even mom-and-pop shops. I’ve counseled people and companies on particular Supply Chain concerns and studied closely the theories of supply and manufacturing. I’ve also witnessed firsthand what can go wrong and how to prevent it.
I realized I was in a position to help.
Small companies often attend to inventory and supply issues last. Finding and paying someone who can bring a level of expertise in these areas is quite often the last priority over marketing, sales, and development- and the right person can be very expensive and hard to find.
